J.M. Matriculation Girls Higher Secondary School

J.M. Matriculation School is the culmination of the long-felt need for a good Matriculation School with an Islamic orientation. It was in the year 1995 that the Managing Committee of Jumma Mosque, Purasawalkam took the historical step of forming a separate trust called “J.M. Educational Trust” to run a school at No.48, Ponnappa Street, Chennai-84.

1. Academic Excellence
2. Religious and Moral Training
3. Discipline

With the above objectives in mind, the Board of Trustees decided to make the school primarily a girls’ school with co-education up to Std V. In order to upgrade our school with Higher Secondary classes and serve the community in a larger spectrum, the school has been shifted to No. 37/3, Ponnan Street, Purasawalkam. Praise be to Allah!
The new building has a meticulously planned and comprehensive infrastructure for both students and staff with a ramp and elevator. The classrooms are spacious, well-lit, and ventilated. The classrooms have all the necessary facilities to make learning a pleasant experience. A conference hall with modern facilities is an added feature. The school started functioning with classes from LKG to Higher Secondary from June 2019 at the new campus. In sha Allah, we hope to extend our services to around 1500 children at our present campus.

Management

The school is managed by a Jumma Masjid Educational Trust. The trustees are committed to the cause of wholesome education, particularly to the girls of economically and educationally backward sections. Alhamdulillah, as a result of this policy of the management, the school is growing in popularity and the strength has already reached 1000 with classes up to Higher Secondary. The day-to-day administration and academic management are in the hands of a highly experienced and devoted Principal, Vice Principal, and team leaders ably assisted by qualified and committed teaching & non-teaching staff.
The team of fully qualified teachers are provided with ample facilities to upgrade their teaching by conducting workshops and in-service training. Scholars from reputed organizations train the staff to improve teaching methodology and other teaching skills. ISLAMIC MORAL EDUCATION

One of the important facts to be imbued in the early growing years of children is understanding and inculcating Islamic principles in their daily lives. Children are made to establish Zuhr prayer in congregation.

Utmost care is given to teach moral and ethical values to be followed in life and to mold children into good human beings in every aspect. We have imbibed Islamic moral instruction along with the curriculum, and the Qur’an recitation is also a part of it. Children are exposed to Islamic principles by trained teachers. Periodical bayans are organized at school, attended by teachers, parents, and children to boost character building. This is compulsory only for Muslim children.

Children are expected to finish the recitation of the entire Quran before they get into the upper primary level. Alhamdulillah! Madrasa classes are functioning after school hours at school premises. We have also started mu’allama classes after school hours. The students, while completing Plus Two, also complete the mu’allama course.

LIBRARY

The school library is well-stocked with books to inculcate the habit of reading amongst the students. For teachers, we have plenty of materials, including encyclopedias for reference. The school subscribes to a variety of magazines and newspapers. Children are allowed to borrow books of their choice. School regularly subscribes to The Times of India (Student’s edition) for all children from Std IV onwards.

COMPUTER EDUCATION

Computer literacy has now become a must. To ensure this, we have a computer lab equipped with 30 multimedia computers and an Internet connection to impart basic training to all the students.

DIGITAL CLASSROOM

Now teaching has become an integrated system of using traditional methods aided by animated lessons with good audio effects. Teachers use video lessons in classrooms to keep pace with modern and advanced teaching technologies. Digital boards are installed in the classrooms. Wi-Fi facility and high-end computers are provided for teachers to prepare the lessons.

SCIENCE LAB

Separate Science Laboratories are available with all required equipment and apparatus as per the Curriculum enabling them to acquire good practical knowledge. Science Exhibition is held at school every year. The ember of scientific enquiry in children’s young minds is ignited well by their active participation in Science Expo. The atmosphere at school must always be pleasant and conducive. There has to be a high rate of interaction and rapport established between teachers, parents, and children. Regular parent-teacher meetings are conducted for good output. Counselors hold regular meetings with parents and their wards who have problems in learning or behavior. Experienced counselors are present to help the children. We conduct special coaching classes for children who need extra care to score marks.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

To ensure the development of the total personality of the students, the school provides ample opportunities for the students to engage themselves in a wide variety of co-curricular activities like debates, oratorical competitions, etc. Science club and literary association meetings, games, and sports are organized on a regular basis. Co-curricular activities and different theme-based celebrations are held every month to make learning enjoyable. Field trips are organized regularly. Arts and Crafts classes provide opportunities for children to bring out their latent talents.

PARENT-TEACHER MEETING

Parents play a major role in the intellectual development and behavioral characteristics of their child. It is necessary that parents and teachers meet regularly so that the efforts taken by the teachers become more fruitful. After each examination, parents are called to attend an open day meet with teachers to discuss the performance of their wards. It is compulsory to attend such meetings to monitor the academic progress, classroom behavior, other activities of their child, and to get the feedback from teachers.

Periodic medical checkup, which includes eye and dental screening, is conducted for all the students every year.

The fees are payable on the dates specified without fail.
